Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
The recent launch of Google Wave generated a lot of attention, and for good reason. It’s recently crossed my path in a few different settings, and while the news is still fresh, there is a lot here for service providers to be thinking about. At a high level, Wave is Google’s entry into the real time collaboration space, and being Web-based, is poised to disrupt the status quo, not just for vendors, but service providers as well.

Will Google Wave Eliminate the Need for PR as Media Relations?
Sunday, July 12th, 2009
New media has already reminded up that PR stands for public relations and not just media relations. This is still something that many organizations are navigating at the moment. Now Google is giving us yet another Wave of innovation and showing us what is possible in the browser, developed by the team that gave us Google Maps.

Google Wave is the New E-mail, but others reinvent e-mail too
Sunday, June 7th, 2009While Google Wave is opening many new ways for developers to reinvent communication, others are doing the same using the regular e-mail protocol.
Cc:Betty
Cc:Betty creates a communication stream from e-mails Cc:Betty receives as a Carbon Copy of your e-mail. This is a very expandable concept.

Gmail Labs
Gmail offers several innovative features, partly in Gmail Labs:
- Preview content from Flickr, Picasa and YouTube in your e-mail (Labs)
- Threaded discussions by grouping e-mail by subject and sender(s)
- Translate messages to your own language (Labs)
- Create an event with Google Calendar from an e-mail
Both initiatives leave us wondering if the classic e-mail concept could be reinvented and compete with Google Wave.

Could Google Wave Redefine Email and Web Communication?
Monday, June 1st, 2009
Google promised to deliver something spectacular on the second day of the Google I/O conference, and they did not disappoint. Google has just announced Google Wave, a new in-browser communication and collaboration tool that is already being hailed by some as the next evolution of email. Yes, Google Wave is potentially that disruptive.
Created by two of the guys behind Google Maps with a small team in Sydney, the concept behind Google Wave is to “unify” communication on the web. It’s a hybrid of email, web chat, IM, and project management software. It features the ability to replay conversations because it records the entire sequence of communication, character by character. Because of this, discussions are also live in Google Wave: you will see your friends type character-by-character.
The features don’t stop there, either. Google Wave also supports the ability to drag attachments from your desktop into Google Wave. It loads that file and sends it immediately to anyone in the conversation. It’s also embeddable, so you can embed Google Wave conversations on any blog.
